Upscore appoints digital and AI expert Thomas Schmidt-Broer as Head of Sales
Since the beginning of this year, Thomas Schmidt-Broer has been strengthening the management team of Upscore as the new Head of Sales. The experienced media and digital expert brings in over 25 years of industry expertise in scaling digital platforms, developing AI-driven business models, and monetising content offerings. In his new role, Schmidt-Broer will focus in particular on expanding client relationships and strategic partnerships with publishers, media companies and digital content providers.
Thomas Schmidt-Broer began his career during the turbulent New Economy era at Tomorrow Internet AG (later Tomorrow Focus) and has been a key figure in the media and digital sector for over two decades, working with all the major players such as Axel Springer, Gruner+Jahr and Burda. As Chief Product Officer and member of the editorial board at BILD Digital, he was responsible for relaunching bild.de, which resulted in a fivefold increase in traffic within a year. At Gruner+Jahr, he built leading digital food brands such as Chefkoch.de and essen-und-trinken.de as Managing Director, transforming them into market-leading offerings with high reach and strong community engagement. For more than a decade at New Work SE, he developed and scaled “XING News” into a leading business content hub, with over 400 publishing partners across DACH-Region and successful curated industry newsletters with more than 8 million subscribers, supported by algorithmic personalisation and AI-based tools for content optimisation.
With his in-depth know-how in data-driven platforms, paid-content models, and AI-based personalisation, Schmidt-Broer will play a central role in the further growth of Upscore. The goal of Upscore is to help publishers increase reach, engagement and revenue from their content in a targeted manner and in order to fully realise their potential.
"With Thomas Schmidt-Broer, we are gaining an outstanding individual who perfectly combines digital business models, data-driven publishing strategies, and sales excellence," says Andreas Demuth, Managing Director and founder of Upscore. "His expertise and consultancy skills, together with our Publishing Intelligence Platform, will help publishers accelerate their digital transformation and unlock new growth opportunities."
Thomas Schmidt-Broer is also looking forward to the new challenge: “For me, Upscore embodies exactly what modern digital publishing requires today: real-time data, an open architecture, and tools that make editorial, product, and commercial teams smarter together. I want to help publishers make their content even more successful, retain readers over the long term, and tap into new revenue opportunities.”
